Content-Based IPS Product Reviews In this section of the report we move from general IPS information to detailed evaluations of some of the market-leading Content-based Network IPS (NIPS) products. For this significant group test we invited all the major vendors in the Network IPS market place (if anyone reading this is a vendor who was not invited, please do let us know). Ten agreed to take part submitting a total of twelve products for testing against our latest methodology, including: Cisco Systems IPS-4255 V5.0(3) (500Mbps) Cisco Systems IPS-4240 V5.0(3) (250Mbps) Intoto IntruPro V3.0 (100Mbps) Juniper Networks IDP 600F V3.1 (500Mbps) NFR Sentivist Smart Sensor 100C V1.3 (100Mbps) Radware DefensePro-3000 V2.43 (1Gbps) Symantec SNS-7160 V4.0.0.9 (1Gbps) Westline Athena Aegis IPS 510L V2.1 (200Mbps) Four of the twelve products submitted for testing failed one or more of the tests and were not awarded NSS Approved. They do not appear in this report, leaving the eight listed above, all of which achieved NSS Approved status. Others were not able to submit products in time for this round of testing, and will hopefully be included in a future edition. Vendors will be encouraged to submit new releases for testing, thus allowing us to update this report at regular intervals and maintain an accurate appraisal of the IPS market place. This is a relatively immature, yet fast-moving market place, and potential customers need as much information as they can acquire when selecting and deploying such an important component in their security systems.
