Introduction
& Round Table 1 - "eCommerce - The Reality &
Projections"
We're all aware of the hype - but what are the facts? Internet based
stocks are soaring, but do they represent true value for
money?
IDC will open this
Spotlight with the release of their comprehensive survey of over
10,000 respondents who have been asked the critical questions about
their Internet usage patterns and eCommerce plans. The report also
probes why people are not using the Internet or buying over the web.
The results of this survey will constitute the most authoritative
data yet on the reality of eCommerce in Europe.
The session will then
continue with a round-table focusing on the impact of eCommerce on
business. Which sectors are likely to be the early adopters -
retail, financial trading, manufacturing? And what new business
opportunities are likely to flourish as a result of the Internet and
eCommerce? Will the European Single Market and the Euro provide the
opportunity for European businesses to lead the world in eCommerce,
or will they adopt a "wait and let's see" attitude while
the US forges ahead?

Round-table
II - "The Next Generation Internet Infrastructure"
With the exponential growth of the Internet and eCommerce, what are
the challenges facing Telcos and Service Providers in meeting
bandwidth demand? Will photonics and DWDM be the answer, or will
performance optimisation of current technologies suffice? What role
will ATM, caching, and network analysis software play in the
immediate future? There's sure to be a lively debate amongst the
participating vendor viewpoints.
In the second part of the
debate we'll focus on the local loop - ISDN, xDSL, HFC cable,
wireless, satellite. What is the likely pan-European outlook for
these disparate technologies? Will they coexist or is there are
clear preferential technology?

III - "PKI - A Guarantee of Positive Identification and
Confidentiality?
Widespread acceptance of the Internet and eCommerce will surely only
become a reality when as users, we can be assured of positive
identification of the party we are dealing with and of the
confidentially of the communication or transaction. Is Public-Key
Infrastructure (PKI) the answer?
Bob Walder of The NSS Group will
introduce this session with an overview of PKI, following which he
will table the
results of their latest comprehensive lab tests (click
here to download a copy of the report). We then move on
to debate the pros and cons of the major issues including cryptography, key
management and international standards, to determine if PKI really
is the answer.

IV - "Firewalls, VPN's & Network Security"
What other security issues will need to be considered before the
consumer can be convinced that an eCommerce transaction over the
Internet is a secure as paying cash or writing a cheque?
In this last session we'll
examine the hardware and software that network managers will need to
build into their global networks to provide a truly secure
"end-to-end" solution - or is there no such beast? What
assurances can the various vendor participants provide us with?
Further research on
firewalls will be presented by Bob Walder of The NSS Group.

Hotel
de la Cite
The Hotel de la Cit, is one of the gems
in the prestigious Orient Express group, comparing favourably with some
of its other famous hotels such as the Cipriani in Venice and the
Splendido in Portofino. Set in a castle amid the ramparts of the medieval
city of Carcassonne in the south of France, it offers an elegance and
tranquility that can only enhance the productivity of this event.
An allocation of rooms, at the NetEvents
preferential rate, have been set aside for delegates by the hotel.
